SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION CRITERIA
The procedure for selecting such scholarship recipients shall be as follows:
1. All scholarship awards must be given for charitable purposes, and selection of recipients must be made on an
objective, non-discriminatory basis. There must be broad dissemination of eligibility requirements and
application deadlines for scholarship awards.
2. No members of Board of Directors, nor family members of Board of Directors, nor members of the association,
shall be eligible to receive benefits from this Fund.
3. In order to ensure that the Fund serves a public purpose and benefits the community rather than private
interests.
4. Applicants will be judged on scholastic achievement, financial need and such other factors as the selection
committee shall from time to time consider appropriate. This program is open to NLGBA affiliate provinces
and permanent resident's students who are Valedictrians, Salutatorians and Honorable Mentions accepted or
enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at approved, accredited institutions. Applicant must have
achieved a 2.0 grade average based on the five-point scale to be eligible to apply. Selection will be based
on three important areas: service to school, service to the community, and congeniality with students, staff
and faculty. Service to school will be defined as involvement in school activities, such as clubs, service
organizations, etc. Service to community will be demonstrated by volunteer activities in nonprofit
organizations, community involvement projects, etc.
5. All potential Candidates are evaluated without regard for race, color, national origin, age, gender and
religion.
6. Applicants will be required to complete an Application for Assistance.
7. The amount of any fund will be at the sole discretion of Board of Directors at the time the fund is given.
8. The scholarship will be awarded (annually) based upon a decision jointly arrived at by the Board of Directors.
9. The Board of Directors will not be under obligation to distribute funds if no suitable candidates are found in a
given period of time.
10. NLGBA will keep all records relating to funds, including copies of financial information received from the
applicant and receipts, if any, for expenses covered by the fund. NLGBA will be responsible for distributing
fund and verifying receipt and proper use by funding (s).
